Painted reconstructions of 5 different fossils

Illustration
Illustrated reconstructons of several fossils for a fossil selling company in Germany.
A young Ichthyosaur, a fishlike reptile that lived in the Jurassic (150 million years ago). The specimen is about 1.5 meters long and has enormous eyes. Since the head is so large compared to its body, it is assumable this is a young animal. It fed on squid and fish.
Acrylics on board. 30 x 40 cm.
A pterosaur species. These agile flyers had a wingspan of about 2.5 meters, and caught fish in the lagoon landscape of Jurassic Solnhofen in Germany, about 145 million yeras ago.
Watercolor and colored on board. 30 x 40 cm.
Claudiosaurus. These small aquatic reptiles were air breating and probably had a similar lifestyle to the iguanas living on the Galapagos Islands today. I was asked to include all three animals of the fossil in the painting, and wanted to show these in a dynamic composition.
Acrylics and colored pencil on board. 30 x 40 cm.
Barasaurus. These land living reptiles lived in the permian period, about 260 million years ago. They have been found near coastal areas, so I used a setting sun for this scene.
Watercolor and colored pencil on board. 30 x 40 cm.
Orthacanthus hunting Xenacanthus. Two sharks from the Permian seas. The company wanted the shark in the painting in the same shape as the fossil. Orthacanthus was about two meters long and has been found in Niederkirchen, Germany.
Acrylics and colored pencil on board. 30 x 40 cm.
